Hydrodynamic Modelling for a Transportation System of Two Unmanned Underwater Vehicles: Semi-Empirical, Numerical and Experimental Analyses

Underwater transportation is an essential approach for scientific exploration, maritime construction and military operations. Determining the hydrodynamic coefficients a complex underwater system comprising multiple vehicles challenging. Here, suitability of quick less costly semi-empirical to obtain two Unmanned Vehicles (UUVs) investigated, where interaction effects between UUVs are assumed be negligible. The drag results were verified by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis at steady state. agree with CFD in heave sway; however, they overpredicted surge due ignoring wake effects. Furthermore, experiments performed validation time-domain motion simulations results. which drags close experiments. could relied on once correction parameter included account interactive effect UUVs. Overall, this work makes contribution deriving dynamic controlling dual UUVs, applied ascertain its accuracy potential improvement.
